First Figure: 1st and 3rd couples dancing

1-4 1st and 3rd couples lead forward with right hands and dance right hand across with opposites.

5-8 They dance left hands across and back again. On bar 8 they give left hands to partners to change places. Couples are still close to each other.

9-10 They dance half right and left, right hand to opposites then left to partners. Then the women give right hands to each other.

11-12 The women turn once round by the right hand while the men dance counter-clockwise, 1st man round 2nd man, 3rd man round 4th man, 2nd and 4th men stand still.

13-14 The men turn once round by the left hand while the women dance clockwise, 1st woman round 4th woman, 3rd woman round 2nd woman, passing them right shoulder.

15-16 They give right hands to opposites and left hands to partners and end in partners’ original places.

17-20 1st and 3rd couples cross to change places, giving right hands to opposites.

21-24 They cross back and on bar 24 give left hands to partners to end in original places, the men facing out.

25-32 1st and 3rd couples dance a Ladies’ Chain.

Second Figure: All dancing

1-4 All, taking and retaining near hands with partners, dance right hands across, with the women in the middle, and

5-8 Back again, left hands across with the men in the middle. On bar 8 all change places with partners, giving left hands.

9-10 Quarter Chain (women clockwise, men counter-clockwise), all give right hands and left to the next two dancers, then the women join right hands across in the middle.

11-12 The women dance right hands across, while the men dance round them counter-clockwise.

13-14 Passing left shoulder with partners, the men dance in to give left hands across, while the women dance out and round them clockwise.

15-16 All give right hands to corners (1st man to 2nd women, 1st woman to 4th man, etc.) and left hands to partners to end in partners’ places.

17-20 1st and 3rd couples cross to change places, giving right hands to opposites, while 2nd and 4th couples set and change places, giving right hands to opposites.

21-24 1st and 3rd cross back and on bar 24 give left hands to partners to return to original places, the men facing out. 2nd and 4th set and dance left hands across to original places, where the men face out.

25-32 Ladies’ Chain, the women dance right hands across half round on 25-26 and again on 29-30.

Third Figure: 2nd and 4th couples dancing

1-32 As 1st and 3rd did in first figure.

Fourth Figure: All dancing

1-32 As in second figure, but 2nd and 4th do what 1st and 3rd did and vice versa.
