Miss Betsy Robertson

32 bar Strathspey

Music: Miss Betsy Robertson (Kerr’s Caledonian Collection, p.13)

1-4 1st couple dance a half figure of eight round 2nd couple, beginning by crossing downwards, then

5-8 They continue for another half figure of eight while 2nd couple cast up and cross down to end on the opposite sides. In all the crossings the woman has precedence over her partner.

9-12 1st couple set and cast off two places (2nd and 3rd move up).

13-16 1st and 3rd couples, taking hands at the sides, set and wheel right hands across half round. All three couples are now on the ‘wrong’ sides.

17-20 1st couple, giving left hands, cross back to own sides and the woman casts up one and goes to face 2nd woman, while the man casts off one and goes to face 3rd man.

21-24 Half reels of three across the dance: to begin, 1st and 2nd women – and 1st and 3rd men – pass right shoulder. 1st couple end on the diagonal ready to turn corners.

25-32 1st couple turn first corner by the right hands, partner by the left, second corner by the right hand and cross back to own sides, giving left hand to partner.

Repeat having passed a couple.
