32 bar Strathspey : 3 couples

Music : Debut

1-4 1st and 3rd couples set, advancing, and turn with both hands to finish in the centre of the dance, 1st couple facing down and 3rd couple facing up, nearer hands joined.

5-12 1st, 2nd and 3rd couples reels of 3 on own sides, 2nd couple face up to begin. Figure 1.

13-16 1st and 3rd couples turn partners twice with both hands to finish in own places but with 1st couple facing out.

17-24 1st and 3rd couples dance a figure of 8 round the 2nd couple who stand still. 1st couple cast off to begin while 3rd couple cross up to begin.

25-28 1st woman and 2nd man set, advancing and turn each other with both hands to finish back to back in a diagonal line facing partners. Figure 2.

29-32 1st and 2nd couples dance a half poussette. 1st couple finish in 2nd place.

Repeat having passed a couple.

This dance was devised about the same time as I shifted to Medowie, a rural area about 15 miles from Newcastle, hence the name. The formations, which emphasise the hands, were chosen because to me, hands denote the friendship and social aspect of Scottish Country Dancing. M M
