Waiting for the Bairns

Tune: The Barnyards of Dalgety.

A reel for three men and four ladies.

1-4 The 3 men do half reel of 3. 3rd man right shoulder to 1st man

5-8 3rd man, 1st and 2nd ladies, half reel of three, 3rd man right shoulder to 2nd lady.

9-12 3s do half reel of three (right shoulder to 3A)

13-16 half reels of three on side lines. 3A right shoulder to 2nd man, 3B right shoulder to 1st man.

17-22 1s and 2s set with pas de basque while 3A and 3B set backwards (2 bars)
1s and 2s advance to surround 3rd man.
1s and 2s then dance four hands half round with 3rd man in the middle. Set back to diagram.

23-24 All set in positions as in diagram.

25-40 3A and 3B dance a "double chase". 3A dances round 2nd lady, 3rd man, 2nd man, 3rd man, 1st lady, 3rd man, 1st man and back to starting place.
The sequence for 3B is 1st lady, 3rd man, 1st man, 3rd man, 2nd lady, 3rd man, 2nd man and back to place.
Always pass corner right shoulder and 3rd man left shoulder.

41-56 1st and 2nd couples dance rights and lefts with setting at each corner. 1st man gives right hand to 2nd lady to start.
Meanwhile 3rd man dances a figure of 8 track round 2nd couple's position, then round 1st couple's places.

57-60 3rd man sets to and changes place with 1st man.

61-64 All (except 1st man) petronella one place round in circle to finish

Repeat twice from new places.
2nd time round 1st and 2nd men start the half reels of three and 1st man changes place with 2nd man on bars 57-60 etc. Each man dances once in centre and dances with all the ladies. It is intended that you come off with different partners.

At the time this dance was composed, 3 of the couples in the Eaglais a Chnoc team were each expecting new additions to their families!
