Figures for Campbell of Duntroon

1-4 All four couples set to partners, with nearer hands joined on the sides. All turn up or down and set, first man to second man, third to fourth, etc.

5-8 All turn the person to whom they just set, first and second men and third and fourth women with right hands, others with left hands.

9-16 First couple dance a figure of eight around second couple’s position. On bars 11-12, second and third couples cross over, giving right hands in passing. On bars 15-16, second and third men, also second and third women, change places, giving left hands in passing. On bars

15-16, second and third men, also second and third women, change places, giving left hands in passing. (Second and third couples have effectively completed half rights and lefts.)

17-18 Each second and third dancer change places with nearest first and fourth dancer, giving right hands in passing (i.e. second man with first woman, etc.) (Figure A)

19-20 First and fourth couples dance left hands across half way round to a spot diagonally opposite where they began. (Figure B)

21-22 Repeat bars 17-18, so that second and third couples are now in middle places.

23-24 Second and third couples dance left hands across half way round.

25-26 Repeat bars 17-18, putting first and fourth couples in middle places.

27-28 first and fourth couples dance left hands across half way round.

29-32 first, fourth and third couples dance a half reel of three on sides, fourth man passing right shoulders with third man, and fourth woman passing left shoulders with first woman to begin. (Figure C)

Repeat with each couple in turn in first place.

NOTE: During bars 9-16 it is important that the second and third couples move promptly and completely into the positions directed.
